Your Performance and Results
We often confuse performance and results. Performance is what you do, and results are what you
get. It’s simple, isn’t it? However, we spend too much time focused on results and not enough on
performance. When your performance is lackluster, inconsistent, and ineffective, your results
will suffer.

The Stuff of Life!
This summer has been all about cleaning up, organizing, and simplifying my overly active life and responsibilities. It’s been a transformative journey, and I want to share it with you.
There was a time when my home and work were always clean, organized, and balanced. I
managed it all – raising three boys with their sports, school, and life activities, holding down a
job, and tending to our farm with colts, calves, sheep, and chickens. We maintained a huge
garden, processed the harvest for the freezer, and enjoyed family vacations, neighborhood trips,
and visits to out-of-state family – all without a housekeeper.
And now…no children, no animals, no sports. No garden, no travel. Yet, everything fell into
disarray and chaos, even with a housekeeper and gardener.
To be fair, life threw some major curveballs – major illnesses in my family, deaths, and
neighbors moving away. I fell into a slump and neglected everything for a long time. When I
finally realized I wasn’t living the life of my dreams, I started to rebuild. That was five years ago.
It took two years just to get off the sofa and back into my life after a heartbreaking loss. Now, I
am in my fourth year of having a life again. I jokingly say I’ve allowed myself to “recover from
old age!” But really, it’s been a recovery from loss, a rebuilding after major life disruptions.
Here’s what I want you to know: We human beings can survive and thrive following major life
disruptions – the loss of loved ones, failed businesses, broken marriages, lost jobs, and even
natural disasters.
Yes, we have to mourn and grieve. Yes, we have to make major adjustments. But we can do it.
We all can.
Resilience is about pivoting and adapting. Some of us have faced challenges we wouldn’t wish
on our worst enemies. Yet, we all have the resilience and resourcefulness to navigate life’s trials
and tribulations.
Remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel. There is a silver lining to every cloud. Keep the
faith, and never forget that you have the strength to rebuild and thrive.
